Whitmer Quietly Traveled Out of State, Defying Her Own COVID Travel Warnings

After warning Michiganders about the COVID repercussions of traveling during spring break, reports confirmed that Governor Gretchen Whitmer traveled out of state about a month ago on a personal trip to visit her father.

Crain’s Detroit Business: “Whitmer’s spokesman confirmed Monday that she traveled ‘once to assist her elderly father who is battling a chronic illness’ within the past six months when Michigan’s COVID-19 testing positivity rate ‘was in the low single digits.’”

The reports exposing Whitmer’s trip follows news of two other staff members in the governor’s office also defying Whitmer’s travel warnings and taking trips to the beach during spring break.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel vacationed in Gulf Shores, Alabama earlier this month as Michigan led the country in new COVID cases. Hertel isn’t the only Whitmer administration official to defy her travel warnings. Tricia Foster, Governor Whitmer’s COO, was caught posting pictures to Facebook during a trip to Siesta Key, Florida.

Whitmer’s hypocrisy is even more egregious as Michigan’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued over 200 COVID-19 violations to various Michigan businesses for violating her executive orders. One Michigan restaurant owner, whose arrest violated court guidelines, was even jailed.

Bottom line: Governor Whitmer’s ‘rules for thee, but not for me’ philosophy is a slap in the face to hardworking Michiganders who have struggled to make ends meet throughout Whitmer’s failed COVID leadership.
