Will Democrats Overconfidence In Wisconsin Cost Them The Senate Seat?

In early October, Wisconsin voters received the news from Democrats that they might be spared the late barrage of Senate TV ads. The hubristic DSCC was so confident in former Senator Russ Feingold’s prospects that they axed their planned TV spending:

“Monday’s news, said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokeswoman Lauren Passalacqua, reinforces that narrative. ‘We’re confident that Russ will continue to outpace his increasingly vulnerable opponent,’ Passalacqua said in a statement.”

How things change. Now with a week to go, money from both Republicans and Democrats is pouring into the Badger State:

“Millions of dollars poured into Wisconsin starting Monday for the final week of the election, as jittery Democrats tried to push Russ Feingold over the finish line in the U.S. Senate race against Sen. Ron Johnson, one of the key races nationwide that could determine whether Republicans retain majority control.”

With both Democratic and Republican SuperPACs on air with $2 million ad buys, it looks like Wisconsin Democrats might have taken taken their eye off the ball with disastrous results.
