2020 Contenders Commandeer Direction of Democrat’s Messaging

2020 presidential hopefuls have hit the road trying to test what messages endear them most to the far-left base of the Democratic Party. As candidates attempt to distinguish themselves from the pack, however, they are pulling the party further left to appease the most radical in their base:

“On issues like health care, immigration, jobs, and crime, once-fringe policy proposals are gaining traction with lawmakers, activists, and wonks as they debate the party’s path out of its current wilderness.”

These progressive policy positions, such as guaranteed jobs and basic income, are far from plausible. Democrats are making promises they can’t keep to court the far-left base. This tactic will undoubtedly catch up with them as the 2020 race continues to unfold.
