600,000 Immigrants Evade Overwhelmed Border Officials

At least 599,000 migrants that illegally crossed the southern border successfully evaded Customs and Border Patrol officers in fiscal year 2022, an average of more than 1,500 every day. During President Trump’s last full fiscal year, fewer than 70,000 migrants dodged law enforcement officers. The migrants — known as “gotaways” — were observed or detected by Border Patrol agents, but were never apprehended “because of a lack of manpower.

The gotaway totals are in addition to the 2-million plus migrants law enforcement officers were able to arrest crossing the border. Department of Homeland Security data shows officers apprehended a new monthly-record of approximately 220,000 migrants in September, the last month of the fiscal year.

Washington Free Beacon: Customs and Border Protection recorded an average of 7,300-7,500 daily migrant encounters at the southwest border by the end of September.

Those averages come out to between 219,000 to 225,000 for the month. Any sum within that range constitutes the worst September for migrant border crossings in U.S. history, a review of public CBP data finds. September 2021 saw 192,000 border crossings, which held the previous record for the worst September in history.

Despite the unprecedented number of crossings, Democrats including border czar Kamala Harris and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas continue to claim that the border is “secure.” Democrats in Congress are also avoiding the issue.

Bottom Line: The Biden-Harris administration and Democrats in Congress refuse to secure the southern border.
