After Backlash, Kamala Harris Leaves Campaign Trail to Vote on Disaster Relief

2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris postponed her scheduled campaign trip to Iowa this week to stay in DC to vote on funding for natural disaster relief. She told the Des Moines Register that “there is an irony” to opting to skip the trip and that she thinks “the people of Iowa want to know that I’ve got them in mind and that I’m here fighting for them and for their relief from these natural disasters.”

This is a change of heart for Kamala Harris, as she previously missed voting on disaster relief funding for Iowa to campaign in Nevada. The vote would have also provided aid to her home state of California to help victims of the state’s devastating wildfires. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Harris “has already missed nearly one out of every four votes in the Senate this year.” She also tops the list for missing the most votes out of anyone in the Senate.

Harris is only interested garnering good optics for her presidential run with her sudden renewed interest in her current job.
