America Rising Launches 2020 Shot Across Andrew Cuomo’s Unethical Bow

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) is very likely to take the plunge his father never did and run for president in 2020. Unfortunately for Cuomo, his record presents several vulnerabilities that will be picked apart long before the 2020 Democratic primary starts.

As a new story in the Albany Times-Union lays out, America Rising is already evaluating Cuomo’s liabilities, as part of our larger focus on ambitious Democrats looking to run in 2020:

“In an interview last week, America Rising Executive Director Colin Reed said the plan is to start messaging about Cuomo’s negatives early. The super PAC plans similar efforts against Democratic U.S. Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who also are on the 2020 short list.”

As America Rising’s Colin Reed laid out to the Times-Union, Cuomo’s resume bears an unfortunate similarity to failed 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton:

“The opposition narrative against Cuomo is likely to follow a similar arc to one that America Rising pushed against Democrat Hillary Clinton last year. Reed said ethics will be an area of focus for Cuomo, given the federal and state prosecutions related to the Buffalo Billion and other upstate economic development initiatives. While Cuomo has not been charged with any wrongdoing or implicated in the cases that have charged his former right-hand aide, Joseph Percoco or former SUNY Polytechnic Institute President Alain Kaloyeros… “

The growing Democratic civil war also presents challenges for Cuomo’s ambitions. On Sirius Inside Politics, Colin Reed spoke on the show about the growing divide in the Democratic Party:

Cuomo has tried to navigate these ideological divides in the Democratic Party by pandering on policies like the millionaires’ tax. At America Rising, we are planning on pointing out these inconsistencies for years to come.
