The civil war in the Democratic Party has emboldened efforts to primary Democratic Senators in 2018. Leading the fight is the group “We Will Replace You,” with the goal of getting rid of any Democratic Senator who won’t “commit to full obstruction of President Trump’s agenda,” according to The Hill.

Because of the strong link between “We Will Replace You” and the Democratic base, Senators like Joe Manchin, Jon Tester, and Heidi Heitkamp should be quaking in their boots. Speaking with The Hill, the groups’ co-founder said that working with Republicans was tantamount to “pandering to racists”

“’We fundamentally reject the assumption that Democrats can only win in red states by pandering to racists and big bankers,’ said Claire Sandberg, a co-founder of the progressive political action committee We Will Replace You.”

We Will Replace You’s rhetoric against Democratic Senators is catching on. Liberal activist Nomiki Konst attacked many of the Democrats up in 2018, saying they were “holding the party hostage”:

“But liberal activists such as Nomiki Konst, who is also a journalist for The Young Turks online news show, told The Hill that more moderate members of the party are ‘holding the party hostage’ by not allowing it to be more responsive to the progressive left. Konst echoed Sandberg about the power of electoral consequences: that a progressive strategy will ultimately motivate the base and appeal to some Trump voters, leaving Democrats better off in a general election.”

According to Konst, the Democrats best chance to win back the Senate is moving far to the left to “appeal to some Trump voters.”I’d like to get some of what she’s smoking
