A Texas nonprofit that recently hired a former Biden-Harris transition official was awarded a $530 million no-bid government contract for work along the southern border, according to a new report from Axios.
The contract could be worth as much as 12 times the nonprofit’s most recently reported annual budget. It is also the second largest contract ever awarded by the Administration for Children and Families, a division within the Department of Health and Human services responsible for “detaining and processing child migrants.”
“Family Endeavors won the contract just months after it hired Andrew Lorenzen-Strait as its senior director for migrant services and federal affairs.
“Lorenzen-Strait, a former official at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, previously advised the Biden-Harris transition team on Department of Homeland Security policy and staffing matters.” – Axios
This is not the first time this nonprofit has received a multi-million dollar contract from the Biden administration since hiring Lorenzen-Strait. According to previous reporting from the Washington Examiner, Family Endeavors was awarded an $87 million contract last month to house migrant families in hotels in Arizona and Texas.
“Government contracts are supposed to be awarded through an open competitive process, outlined in the Federal Acquisition Regulation. Information obtained through the Federal Procurement Data System indicates that ICE never opened the contract to outside companies and organizations but went with an internal candidate who had significant insider connections.” – Washington Examiner
Bottom line: The Biden administration is full of professional consultants who have made careers off delivering for clients. It appears they have now delivered for one of their own.
