Biden’s Assault on the Second Amendment Won’t Solve the Crime Crisis

Joe Biden and the Democrats in control of America’s largest cities have exacerbated rising violent crime rates with their radical ‘defund the police’ agenda. Now they want to export those reckless policies and put every community in America in danger.

Biden’s Assault on the Second Amendment Won’t Solve the Crime Crisis

Joe Biden finally addressed skyrocketing crime rates, but his proposals will do nothing to solve the growing crisis. In his address, Biden blamed “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines and claimed that some gun dealers were selling “death and mayhem on our streets.” He failed to hold the Democrats in power in large cities accountable for failing to bring crime rates under control and continuing to defund police departments.

Axios: Homicide rates in large cities — many of them run by Democrats — were “up more than 30 percent on average last year, and up another 24 percent for the beginning of this year,” foreshadowing a violent summer, the N.Y. Times reported June 1.

Biden’s approach to solving the problem is misguided. Rifles of any type are used in less than two percent of homicides. Additionally, 75 percent of criminals obtain their firearms illegally. And, while Biden once wrote that “more cops means less crime,” his party has driven record amounts of police officers into retirement.

Republicans and Second Amendment advocates have been sounding the alarm on the drastic rise in crime for months, calling for increased policing and more aggressive prosecution of criminals. But Biden whose party exacerbated the problem sees the crisis as an opportunity to advance his plan to restrict Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

Rep. Jim Banks: The problem isn’t guns. The overwhelming majority of gun murders are committed with handguns, while assault weapons are used in a negligible share. And cracking down on legal gun dealers will do nothing, because 75% of criminals obtain their firearms illegally.

There is overwhelming evidence connecting the rise in murders to the violent riots last summer and the Defund the Police movement. Both of which were supported, financially and rhetorically, by the Democratic Party and the Biden administration.

Fox News: “This is a political red herring aimed at hiding the real and abysmal failures of the Biden administration,” NRS spokeswoman Amy Hunter told Fox News. “Crime rates are high because of the efforts to defund the police and a failure to prosecute career criminals. The simple fact is strict enforcement of existing laws — including gun laws — coupled with support of law enforcement and prosecutors to do their jobs would result in a dramatic decrease in crime. But, the president would rather play politics than make Americans safer.”

Bottom Line: Joe Biden and the Democrats in control of America’s largest cities have exacerbated rising violent crime rates with their radical ‘defund the police’ agenda. Now they want to export those reckless policies and put every community in America in danger.
