Chuck Schumer Hopes All #WeNeedNine Photos Have Been Deleted

The most dangerous place in DC is between Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and a microphone. However, after Schumer pledged yesterday to attempt a filibuster of Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination, reporters should bring a fresh skepticism of anything he utters now.

Last year, Senator Schumer was a leading voice of the #weneednine movement. The New York Senator spoke out frequently about why having a full, nine member Supreme Court was so important:

“And just this morning we received a reminder on why it’s important to have a full court. A deadlocked four to four upheld a lower court decision preventing two women from suing a bank for discrimination. So many things will be put on hold when there are four to four decisions and it’s going to hurt progress in America whether it’s economic or social justice in any way. Cases deserve a resolution from a full court.”

Yet now Schumer is going back on his word, and all so that he can please the most liberal members of the Democratic base who have taken to cursing him out in Brooklyn. According to Politico, liberal activists have pressured Schumer to adopt the most obstructionist stance possible against Judge Gorsuch:

“Blocking Gorsuch would be a major win for the left. Liberal activists have been urging Schumer to do everything in his power to stop Trump’s pick, even as Senate Democrats have struggled to mount a case against him.”

Schumer is in a new job so this type of embarrassing flip-flop is perhaps to be expected. Unfortunately for Schumer, when Democrats lose this fight and Gorsuch is confirmed, Schumer’s credibility will be lost as well.
