Democrat Senate Candidate Sara Gideon Is the Subject of Yet Another Ethics Complaint

Last October, Democratic Senate candidate Sara Gideon was fined by Maine’s ethic watchdog after she was caught illegally using a corporate-funded committee to reimburse herself for political donations in 2016.

WGME-13: “The Maine Ethics Commission unanimously voted to assess a $500 fine against Gideon’s shuttered political committee, ending a state ethics case against her as she runs for the Democratic nomination to face U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican, in 2020. A federal complaint on the same issue looms and a conservative group filed a related one on Tuesday.”

Just a few months later, Gideon is now entangled in yet another ethics scandal. This time, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) alleges Gideon violated the Federal Election Campaign Act by coordinating with an outside group.

After Gideon posted the information on her website, a liberal outside group launched a $500,000 ad campaign on her behalf. On the campaign trail, Gideon routinely rails against the influence of corporations and dark money groups in American politics. Her repeated ethics violations reveal the full extent of her shameless hypocrisy.
