Democrat Senate Candidates Embrace the Radical Left

Democrats running for election or reelection to the Senate continue to alienate voters by taking extreme positions and campaigning with radical progressive activists. Despite some failed attempts to distance themselves from extreme elements of their party and “pivot” to the center, Democrats are still soliciting support from radical activists, organizations and politicians.

Washington Free Beacon: In a state where independent voters make up a plurality of the electorate, Colorado Democratic senator Michael Bennet has focused his reelection campaign on appealing to centrist voters. In private, however, he’s reminding left-wing donors at a drag queen-themed fundraiser that he has a “more progressive” record than socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (D., Vt.).

“When I say I have a progressive track record, I mean it, I’m more progressive than Bernie Sanders,” Bennet said at an Oct. 9 fundraiser featuring Jewish drag queen Laura Menorah. “In terms of our, you know, our tax code because of the profound income inequality in our country.”

Endorsements from radical groups and politicians reveal how candidates might govern. Several Democratic Senate candidates — including John Fetterman and Mandela Barnes — accepted endorsements from a radical anti-police group. Bernie Sanders is also hitting the campaign trail for several Democrats running in critical races.

New York Times: A top priority for Mr. Sanders this year has been electing Mandela Barnes, the Democratic Senate nominee in Wisconsin. Mr. Sanders has allowed the Barnes campaign to use his name to send out fund-raising emails, reaping at least $500,000, according to a Sanders adviser…

But when Politico reported this month that Wisconsin Democrats were planning possible events with Mr. Sanders, Matt Bennett, the co-founder of Third Way, a centrist group, wrote on Twitter: “I desperately want Barnes to win, so I ask again of his campaign: Why would you do this? Why????”

In Nevada, Catherine Cortez Masto — who describes herself as “moderate” — campaigned with a socialist who advocates “pushing the party” even further to the left.

Washington Free Beacon: Nevada Democratic senator Catherine Cortez Masto, a self-described “moderate,” said she was “proud to stand” with an avowed socialist at her latest campaign rally…

Cortez Masto’s willingness to tether herself to Segerblom is a likely attempt to appeal to the Democratic Party’s liberal wing. But the move could threaten the incumbent senator’s “moderate” persona, which Cortez Masto has used to appeal to disgruntled Latinos and independents in her tight reelection bid against Republican challenger Adam Laxalt. Cortez Masto’s campaign site, for example, refers to the Democrat as a “reasonable, moderate” lawmaker who “works with Democrats, Republicans, and independents to strengthen our economy.” But beyond her association with Nevada’s left flank, Cortez Masto votes with President Joe Biden 93 percent of the time.

Bottom Line: Democrats running for Senate caved to the most radical elements of their party.
