Consumer prices increased 6.8% in November from last year, the largest increase in 39 years. But in an attempt to save face ahead of the 2022 midterms, Democrats have downplayed voters’ inflation concerns for months. Some are even ignoring the issue altogether.

Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA):

Axne: “Listen, I’ll tell you what: Our economy is on a great track right now. I’m assuming you’re talking about a lot of the false advertisements that are out there. You know what? Here’s the deal. They’re comparing any of the costs against last year. I’d say we had a few things increase because we were in the middle of COVID, so no, I’m not concerned about a false advertisement.”

Rep. Josh Harder (D-CA):

Harder: “I think inflation is still going up quite slowly. I don’t think we’re at any risk of runaway inflation or anything like that. It seems to be ticking up a little bit, and part of that is actually not a bad thing. Part of that is just recognition that our economy is getting back on track.”

Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ):

O’Halleran: “Inflation right now is problematic, but not out of control as far as the economists across our entire nation have indicated. Hopefully we’ll get out of that within the next half year or so.”

Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL):

Casten: “With respect to inflation, every economist we’ve talked to…has basically said very consistently that the inflation we’re seeing in the economy right now is passing, transitory, and manageable.”

Rep. Mike Levin (D–CA):

Levin: “Some of the near term things we’re seeing like inflation and supply chain issues, that those will be transitory in nature.”

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH):

Politico: “‘The important thing is for people to see some positive improvement in their lives,’ said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), who just won reelection and is close to Hassan. Asked if the bill will increase inflation as Republicans contend, she replied: ‘No. Because it’s paid for. It’s just an effort to scare people.’”

Senate Candidate John Fetterman (D-PA):

CNN Anchor: “Rising prices – everyone is experiencing them at the grocery store, and it’s hitting everyone very hard. So how, in general, are people in your state handling it as the holidays approach, aside from those who are coming to your free store?”

Fetterman: “Most people are thankful this Thanksgiving that, compared to a year ago, they’re going to be able to see their family, and they’ll be vaccinated. And we will have an opportunity to come together and remember what we’ve lost over the course of the pandemic. But there’s also a lot to be thankful for in terms of what we’re able to do now that we’re on the other side of the vaccination debate.”

“Of course we’re sensitive to the fact that things might be a little more expensive, but we’re also very much thankful for the idea that we’re able to celebrate Thanksgiving together while acknowledging nearly 800,000 empty chairs now since this pandemic’s beginning. So I’m actually glad of where we are a year now versus a year ago.”

Whitney Robertson, America Rising PAC Press Secretary: “Instead of addressing their self-made inflation crisis, Democrats are ignoring Americans’ inflation concerns while forging ahead with their reckless tax-and-spend agenda. This negligence will hurt the middle-class Americans who are already scraping by to make ends meet.”
