Democrats’ calls to eliminate the filibuster is out of touch with where most Americans stand.

Dismantling the Democrats’ Abortion Talking Point

What is Democratic Senate candidates’ go-to response following the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade? “Get rid of the filibuster.”

Not that it would have helped last time the Senate voted on codifying Roe v. Wade. When Senate Democrats did vote on their abortion bill that would have codified Roe v. Wade into law, it failed to reach 50 votes.

Eliminating the filibuster is out of touch with where most Americans stand. According to recent polling, only 27 percent of Americans oppose the filibuster.

Tim Ryan (D-OH):

Ryan: “I wanna get to the Senate so we can get rid of the filibuster.”

Cheri Beasley (D-NC):

Beasley: “My first priority would be to get rid of the filibuster.”

Mandela Barnes (D-WI):

Barnes: “Now, with Roe under attack, we need to abolish the filibuster and we need to codify Roe vs. Wade once and for all. And I will tell you, to answer a previous question, I will never let archaic Senate procedures stand in the way of our basic human rights. We deserve elected leaders who will go to the mat to protect abortion rights, and that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

Alex Lasry (D-WI):

Lasry: “If I was in the Senate, I would of course make sure that we abolish the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade.”

Tom Nelson (D-WI):

Nelson: “Unlike Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, when I am in the United States Senate, I will abolish the filibuster, and work to codify Roe v. Wade. That’s a promise.”

John Fetterman (D-PA):

Fetterman: “Abortion rights >> Filibuster

“That’s the Tweet.”

Reminder: Senate Democrats failed to eliminate the filibuster once before when they tried to pass voting legislation in January. The political flop was so embarrassing, Chuck Schumer wouldn’t even consider trying to eliminate the filibuster to pass their abortion bill this past Spring.
