Democrats have been locked in a bitter intra-party civil war between the establishment and progressive activists since 2016, and Elizabeth Warren is on whoever’s side is winning at the time.

Perhaps the most egregious example of Elizabeth Warren’s political opportunism is her blatant flip-flop on whether the 2016 Democratic Primary was “rigged.”

For 17 months, Warren refused to comment on the allegations of primary rigging against Bernie Sanders in an effort to ingratiate herself with the party establishment:

“Senator Elizabeth Warren carefully avoided picking sides in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, winning a place on Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential short list for her restraint.”

Preparing her 2020 campaign and sensing the growing influence of progressive activists, Warren then changed course and announced the DNC had rigged the primary against Sanders:

“But now, a full 17 months after Clinton secured the Democratic presidential nomination, Warren has weighed in on a controversy that hung over the Democratic primary: She says the nominating contest was ‘rigged’ in favor of Clinton after all. Just like the progressives who backed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said it was.”

Consistently trailing Joe Biden in the polls, Warren is back to appealing to the establishment. According to The New York Times, she “spent the weekend wowing party insiders” at the DNC summer meeting in San Francisco.

If Warren’s political gymnastics have left your head spinning, you’re not alone.
