Extramarital Sexting Scandal Engulfs Cal Cunningham’s Senate Campaign

On October 3, reports surfaced of a sexually explicit conversation between Democratic North Carolina Senate candidate Cal Cunningham and a woman who is not his wife. The woman in question is married to a veteran who may have served under Cunningham in the military. Shortly afterward, Cunningham admitted the texts were real and issued an apology.

Two days later, allegations of yet another extramarital affair further rocked Cunningham’s campaign. He has yet to confirm the second affair, but he cancelled a previously-scheduled town hall appearance that was set to take place that night.

Cunningham has yet to make a public appearance since the sexually explicit text messages were made public. Cunningham’s opponent, Senator Thom Tillis, has called on Cunningham to provide North Carolinians with a “thorough explanation.”

Details about the extramarital affairs have garnered massive local and national media coverage, and some voters have even called on Cunningham to drop out of the race. Regardless of whether he stays in the race or not, Cal Cunningham has proven that he is not the person of integrity he purported to be.
