Joe Biden and the Democrats’ Voting Rights Hypocrisy

Joe Biden is traveling to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to promote Democrats’ voting agenda which ironically falls on the same day as the MLB’s All-Star game. The game was moved from Atlanta to Denver in April after the president lied about the provisions of a Republican-backed voting law in Georgia and said he would “strongly support” the All-Star festivities’ relocation.

The MLB’s move was a devastating blow to Georgia small businesses who were denied an estimated $100 million in revenue. One local business owner called the decision “crushing” as businesses “build back from a pandemic.”

One of the most often cited reasons for promoting the Atlanta boycott was the unfounded claim that a new requirement to present photo ID when voting absentee is suppression. However, an overwhelming majority of voters are in favor of voter ID laws, including a majority of non-white voters. Further, perhaps as a response to the polling, Georgia’s own Sen. Raphael Warnock and activist Stacey Abrams recently stated they are in favor of voter ID after publicly campaigning against it.

Instead of supporting commonsense voting laws, Democrats are championing legislation that would federalize elections, funnel taxpayer money to campaigns, and keep their incumbents in office. Even one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, Rep. Jim Clyburn, admitted S1/HR1 was their plan to keep Democrats in power.

The Guardian: “There’s no way under the sun that in 2021 that we are going to allow the filibuster to be used to deny voting rights. That just ain’t gonna happen. That would be catastrophic,” he said. “If Manchin and Sinema enjoy being in the majority, they had better figure out a way to get around the filibuster when it comes to voting and civil rights.”

In his speech Tuesday, Biden is expected to slam Republican voting policies as “restrictive” and “suppressive.” However, he has yet to acknowledge that many “blue states,” including the president’s home state of Delaware, have more restrictive voting practices than states he has decried such as Georgia.

The Atlantic: “Connecticut has no early voting at all, and New York’s onerous rules force voters to change their registration months in advance if they want to participate in a party primary. In Rhode Island, Democrats enacted a decade ago the kind of photo-ID law that the party has labeled ‘racist’ when drafted by Republicans; the state also requires voters to get the signatures of not one but two witnesses when casting an absentee ballot (only Alabama and North Carolina are similarly strict). According to a new analysis released this week by the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and Research, Delaware, Connecticut, and New York rank in the bottom third of states in their access to early and mail-in balloting.”

Whitney Robertson, Press Secretary at America Rising PAC: “Democrats want to claim the moral high ground when it comes to voting laws, but their hypocrisy couldn’t be more blatant. Joe Biden and his liberal allies would rather appease the radical activists in their base than push for commonsense voting laws that a majority of Americans support.”
