Joe Biden’s Pick for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Sparks Outrage Amongst Progressive Democrats

According to a report from Politico, Biden’s pick for Homeland Security secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, has made more than $3.3 million from defending massive Silicon Valley companies such as Uber, Airbnb, and Intuit — companies that some of Biden’s Democrat allies have brawled with for months.

Politico: More than a dozen lawmakers — including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) — urged the Federal Trade Commission in 2019 to investigate whether efforts by Intuit and other tax prep companies to conceal their free tax filing options from the public, which were exposed by a ProPublica investigation, constituted “unfair and deceptive practices or unfair methods of competition.”

Politico notes that “while Mayorkas did not represent Intuit in the Federal Trade Commission investigation,” he did defend them when they were sued by the Los Angeles city attorney for “consumer fraud.”

Democratic Senators have already begun criticizing other Biden administration picks, including Secretary of Treasury nominee Janet Yellen and Secretary of State choice Antony Blinken, as a result of their million-dollar earnings from their work on behalf of corporations.

Bottom line: The selection of Mayorkas has only exacerbated divisions between Biden’s administration and his far-left base.
