Capital New York: Republican PAC Targets De Blasio’s Iowa Trip For Clinton

America Rising, the GOP-aligned political action committee conducting opposition research on Democratic politicians, is looking into the circumstances surrounding Mayor Bill de Blasio’s trip to Iowa this past weekend to campaign for Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid.

The PAC, which grew out of the remnants of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign, has recently been looking into the conduct of Clinton’s campaign surrogates.

Last week, POLITICO New York reported the PAC was targeting Gov. Andrew Cuomo, also a Democrat, seeking information about the governor’s communications with Buffalo area developers amid news reports of a federal probe into contracts the state awarded under Cuomo’s “Buffalo Billion” program.

The PAC first filed a Freedom of Information request with de Blasio’s office in October, seeking records of any communications between Clinton’s campaign and six of de Blasio’s top staffers, as news reports circulated that the mayor and Clinton’s camp were in talks about a possible endorsement.
