Officials Warn of ‘Mass-Overdose Events’ as Title 42 Set to Expire

The Drug Enforcement Agency warned of a spike in “mass-overdose events” involving fentanyl in the coming months. During the 12-month period that ended in October 2021, more than 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses, mostly caused by fentanyl.

DEA: Today, the Drug Enforcement Administration sent a letter to federal, state, and local law enforcement partners warning of a nationwide spike in fentanyl-related mass-overdose events.  Administrator Anne Milgram outlined the current threat and offered DEA support to law enforcement officers responding to these tragic incidents. . .

Fentanyl-related mass-overdose events, characterized as three or more overdoses occurring close in time and at the same location, have happened in at least seven American cities in recent months, resulting in 58 overdoses and 29 deaths. Cities impacted include Wilton Manors, Florida; Austin, Texas; Cortez, Colorado; Commerce City, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; St. Louis, Missouri; and Washington, D.C.

The warning follows an announcement that the Biden-Harris administration plans to revoke Title 42, a Trump-era rule that reduced the number of border crossings. Customs and Border Patrol has the capacity to process approximately 5,000 migrants a day, but officials say that once Title 42 is rescinded next month the number of crossings could reach 18,000 a day. Republicans slammed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for failing to secure the border and neglecting the ongoing crisis — and Democrats fear political backlash in November’s midterm elections.

Bottom Line: Officials could soon be overwhelmed with migrants and deadly drugs surging across the southern border. Joe Biden’s immigration policies are making the situation even worse.
