Record Number of Migrants Surge Across Southern Border
Illegal border crossings reached a new record high last month. Officials warn even more immigrants are likely to illegally enter the U.S. once the Biden-Harris administration revokes Title 42.

More than 234,000 migrants were arrested attempting to cross into the United States in April — the most in the history of the Department of Homeland Security. More than half, approximately 118,000, were released into the interior of the U.S.
New York Post: The number of reported migrant encounters along the US-Mexico border soared to a new high of 234,088 in April — the most in the history of the Department of Homeland Security — with just under 97,000 people summarily expelled under the Title 42 health authority and more than 110,000 released into the US, according to new data from the Biden administration.
The number of encounters in April represented a 5.8% increase from the 221,303 migrant encounters in March. That figure had represented the highest number during the Biden administration, outstripping the 213,593 stops from July of last year.
Officials are warning that the situation at the southern border could deteriorate even further once the Biden-Harris administration revokes Title 42. Title 42 is a Trump-era policy that allows authorities to turn migrants away at the border. It was used to expel nearly 100,000 migrants in April alone.
Fox News: Border officials are bracing for an influx of migrants when the health order expires on May 23 if a Louisiana federal court does not hand down a ruling on its fate. In Texas, migrant groups are seen illegally crossing into the United States from Mexico daily. . .
“[Joe Biden] constantly tries to deflect on what’s going on at the border, and that’s extremely disappointing because if he does not face-up and look at what the reality is, we’re just going to continue in this situation,” [Border Patrol Council President Brandon] Judd told “America Reports.”
“And it’s not just going to [be] like we’re going to continue right now… It’s going to get worse, especially when Title 42 goes away. Once Title 42 goes completely away, we’re in some serious trouble.”
Bill Melugin, a Fox News reporter at the southern border, describes smugglers as “brazen” and not “afraid”. He also reports that border patrol agents are overwhelmed.
Our drone watched as these smugglers waded back into Mexico this evening. Moments before, we saw them escorting a group of 50 immigrants into Eagle Pass illegally. We’ve been many of these smugglers over the past several days. They are brazen, and they aren’t afraid. @FoxNews pic.twitter.com/N77dafxLkS
