Bernie Sanders may pitch himself to voters as a champion for the working class, but his ownership of three homes and net worth of at least $2 million undermines his rhetoric.

Politico: “In the wake of his 2016 presidential run, the most lucrative thing he’s ever done, the 77-year-old self-described democratic socialist is a three-home-owning millionaire with a net worth approaching at least $2 million, taking into account his publicly outlined assets and liabilities along with the real estate he owns outright.”

Two of Sanders’ homes are located in Vermont and one is in Washington, D.C.:

  • His primary four-bedroom home in Vermont is 2,352 square feet and worth more than $430,000. According to The Wall Street Journal, “The home is in a quiet area off Ethan Allen Park, a woodland area with views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks from a 40-foot stone observation tower.”
  • He purchased his Washington, D.C. home for $489,000 in 2007, but similar homes in the area have sold for as much as $800,000. It is located close to the U.S. Capitol and dates back to the 1800s.
  • The third and most controversial home was purchased by Sanders in 2016, which The Wall Street Journal describes as “an island retreat property in North Hero, VT which was “originally listed for $775,000.”

The Washington Post: “Just a 40-minute drive from Burlington, “the islands” — local lingo for the chain of bridge-connected islands that dot Lake Champlain, the sixth largest in the country — are a popular New England summer and fall destination with sparkling views of the Adirondack Mountains. They boast 200 miles of shoreline, scenic bike paths and birdwatching.”

After a long day of vilifying the rich and proposing massive taxes on middle class Americans, Bernie Sanders must enjoy retreating to one of his three homes to recharge for another day of shameless hypocrisy. Check out photographs of his sanctuaries below:
