Kamala Harris’ Team Panics Over Her Failure to Address Border Crisis

Kamala Harris is desperately trying to distance herself from the border crisis that Joe Biden tasked her with managing. A Biden-Harris administration official said that her office was in a “panic” over the out-of-control situation and that her failed leadership might be politically damaging.

The situation at the southern border has only gotten worse since Harris took over on March 24. In April, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol reported making more than 178,000 apprehensions. For nearly 70 days, Harris has neglected to even visit the border to witness the surge, even as local officials beg Harris and the federal government to take responsibility.

Townhall: “As of right now we haven’t received any help from the federal government to put a stop to this. I think that for the time being, we’re going to be on our own to figure things out…These individuals are going to keep coming,” [Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank] Martinez explained. “They’ve been invited. I’ve invited them through several media outlets several times to come down here and see firsthand, but I don’t think that that’s at the top of their agenda, it’s really not.”

Harris’ continued inaction comes just days after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed that the “border is closed.” The vice president has planned visits to Mexico and Guatemala for later this month, but only after deferring the first round of talks to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Republicans say that isn’t good enough.

Fox News: “I’d say the vice president, if she’s actually addressing this issue, needs to do both, needs to go to the border, needs to understand the conditions that are being experienced, needs to understand and talk to the men and women of the Border Patrol, she needs to hear firsthand what they’re experiencing, because it’s all interrelated,” former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said last month.

Bottom Line: Local officials continue to plead for federal assistance and a visit from Harris, who was tasked with leading the federal response. Harris refuses to even discuss the border crisis, going 69 days — and counting — without holding a press conference.
