Biden Failure: Dems’ Election Takeover Collapses

Schumer and Biden are forcing vulnerable Senate Democrats to walk the plank on the filibuster for a bill that is already “doomed”. This is another crushing defeat for the Biden-Harris administration’s legislative agenda, and is causing even more disarray among congressional Democrats.

Biden Failure: Dems’ Election Takeover Collapses

Democrats’ attempt to seize control of the country’s elections will likely die in the Senate tomorrow. Despite months of political badgering, Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer failed to pressure enough Senate Democrats into hypocritically eliminating the filibuster — which would allow the election takeover to pass on a party line vote in the 50-50 Senate.

New York Times: Senate Democrats plan to press ahead this week with an effort to push new voting rights protections through Congress, in an all but doomed attempt to enact a key piece of President Biden’s agenda that has been undercut by members of his own party. . . Democrats lack the unanimous support needed in their party to change Senate rules to muscle through the legislation themselves. Still, Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, said late last week that Democrats would forge ahead anyway.

The doomed bill, which would undermine election integrity legislation in red states, is causing chaos among Democrats on Capitol HIll. Rep. Maxine Waters said Senators Joe Mancin and Kyrsten Sinema — fellow Democrats — “don’t care” about minorities and Black people because they oppose changing the Senate’s rules to abolish the filibuster.

Fox News: “They have sent the signal. They have been clear about it. They don’t care about minorities. They don’t care about Blacks. They don’t care about people in their own districts who they’re going to deny their voting rights and undermine their voting rights,” Waters said.

“I must always be optimistic. But this is a very difficult time for Democrats,” Waters said. “We have two Democrats, Manchin and Sinema, and they are holding up the Democratic agenda. They have decided that they are going to stick with support of the filibuster, and they don’t care whether or not they undermine the rights of minorities and Blacks in this country.”

Republicans, however, remain united in opposition to the election takeover.

Bottom Line: Schumer and Biden are forcing vulnerable Senate Democrats to walk the plank on the filibuster for a bill that is already “doomed”. This is another crushing defeat for the Biden-Harris administration’s legislative agenda, and is causing even more disarray among congressional Democrats.
