Chicago Cops Turn Their Backs to Lori Lightfoot After Two Officers Shot During Violent Weekend

One Chicago police officer, Ella French, died and another is fighting for his life after they were shot during a traffic stop on Saturday in Chicago. When Mayor Lori Lighfoot arrived at the hospital for a press conference, about 30 officers turned away from her to protest her failure to support law enforcement and address the skyrocketing crime rate in the city. The surviving officer’s father, who is a retired officer, blamed Lightfoot for what happened.

Chicago Sun-Times: The father excoriated the mayor and blamed her for what had happened. One source said Lightfoot handled herself well as the father yelled at her. She listened and treated him with respect.

It was then suggested that Lightfoot say a few words to nearby grieving officers, but as she approached, they all walked away from her and to the other side of a bank of chairs — and turned their backs, the sources said.

Over the weekend, 54 shooting incidents left 73 people injured and 13 dead. Still, Democrats continue to attack police officers and demand cities defund their police departments.

Fox News: Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., was ripped by viewers on Thursday after telling CBS News that the police “need” to be defunded, despite shelling out thousands of dollars for her own personal security detail. . .

Bush said she would ensure she has security because she has had attempts on her life and has “too much work to do.” “So suck it up, and defunding the police has to happen,” she added.

Bottom Line: The surge of violent crime continues in Democrat-controlled cities, and their political posture towards police departments has consequences for officers and the public.
