Democrats Panic as Radical Agenda Faces Collapse

Democrats — including Joe Biden, progressive and “moderate” Democrats in Congress, and Congressional leadership — are feuding over multiple high-stakes policies, including taxes, the border, Israel and their reckless $3.5 trillion tax and spending spree. Amid the intense infighting, CNN wrote that “It’s impossible to overstate the stakes of this week’s legislative horse-trading for the remainder of Joe Biden’s presidency.”

On infrastructure, moderates and progressives are promising to vote against the others’ preferred bill – the physical infrastructure bill passed by the senate or the reckless $3.5 trillion tax and spend behemoth.

Business Insider: So the moderates are threatening to tank progressives’ larger bill for being too radical, and the progressives are threatening to spike the roads-and-bridges deal in a clash that resembles mutually assured destruction. The increasing turmoil threatens to sink both measures.

Vulnerable Democrats are concerned that the $3.5 trillion bill is too reckless, prompting outrage from progressives who demand Democrats unite to pass the purely partisan spending bill.

Washington Post: A slew of moderate Democrats in the House and Senate have toiled behind the scenes to try to rethink or scale back core elements of the party’s $3.5 trillion tax-and-spending plan, opening new internal rifts that complicate its path to swift passage. In recent days, centrist Democratic lawmakers have questioned the price tag of the proposal, raised alarms that it could add to the deficit, and sought to whittle down some of its key components, including programs that would provide free prekindergarten and community college for all Americans perhaps regardless of income.

Further rifts were revealed yesterday when progressives forced Nancy Pelosi to remove $1 billion in funding for Israel’s iron dome missile defense system. 

New York Post: A group of far-left lawmakers — including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) — forced House Democratic leadership Tuesday to cut $1 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome from a short-term government funding bill. . . Moderate House Democrats slammed their progressive colleagues for their anti-Israel stance, arguing that the Iron Dome is not an offensive weapon but rather a defense mechanism meant to shield civilians from rocket attacks by Islamist militant groups.

Finally, Joe Biden faced outrage from Democrats — including Chuck Schumer — over his decision to deport illegal Haitian immigrants camping at the southern border. Schumer said that Biden’s management of the crisis “defies common sense.”
