Update the Map! Kamala Harris is Still MIA at the Border

86 days after being named Joe Biden’s border czar, Kamala Harris is still MIA at the border as she travels to Atlanta, Georgia.

Harris’ negligence of her border responsibilities has sparked backlash from both sides of the aisle, particularly from border state representatives whose communities are most impacted.

Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar sent a letter to Kamala Harris Tuesday urging her to make a trip to the border and meet with officials who are dealing with the crisis first hand. The letter comes in light of Harris’ unsuccessful trip to Central America last week where she made headlines for some “cringeworthy” moments when confronted by the media about her failure to personally visit the border.

The Washington Post: “‘I write to invite you to the U.S. Southern Border to observe the ongoing humanitarian crisis and share the perspective of Americans who live there. I encourage you to join me and other Members of Congress, while we visit with the people on the ground who deal with these issues every day,’ writes Cuellar in the letter, which he shared with The Washington Post.

Cuellar also writes that the ‘rapid rise in the number of migrants arriving at our Southern Border has placed severe burdens on our communities.’ He mentions the challenges posed by the pandemic, economic struggles and travel restrictions, before concluding: ‘The situation on the border will only worsen, as more migrants are expected to arrive. The Administration needs to take a proactive approach to create a sustainable system of humanitarian aid and relieve everyday Americans of that responsibility.’”

While Harris remains MIA, the border crisis continues to worsen and border states are now being forced to take measures into their own hands. On Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott announced Texas is building its own wall in light of the Biden administration’s decision to suspend border wall construction. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also announced he will be sending law enforcement personnel to Texas and Arizona to help manage the crisis, and former President Donald Trump is making a trip to the border later this month.

Whitney Robertson, Deputy Press Secretary at America Rising PAC: “The Biden administration’s open border policies created this crisis, and now border states and local communities are being forced to clean it up. Kamala Harris’ months-long failure to address the border crisis sends a clear message that this administration is not capable of solving it.”
