Bad News for Biden: Key Group of Voters Losing Trust on Covid

An Axios-Ipsos poll indicated Biden is losing trust with every type of voter on Covid, including Democrats, Republicans and, crucially, independents. Just 42 percent of voters said they trusted Biden to provide accurate information on the pandemic, a 16-point decline from earlier this year.

Axios: But the share of Democrats who say they have a “great deal” of trust in Biden has dropped sharply, from 45% to 33%. With independents, the “great deal” measure has dropped from 17% to 11%. Just 2% of Republicans say they trust Biden a “great deal” — that’s remained steady since June.

The Axios numbers are the latest in a string of bad polls for the Biden-Harris administration. The RealClearPolitics average shows Biden’s approval rating underwater by almost 10 percent. Pollsters say voters are angry at the administration for the deadly retreat from Afghanistan, the crisis at the southern border, rising inflation and a resurgence of Covid cases and restrictions.

New York Post: Biden’s approval rating has been steadily dropping since he took office in January as his administration has attempted to manage a variety of blunders from the chaotic troop withdrawal from Afghanistan to the record-smashing surge of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.

A Quinnipiac University poll released last Wednesday showed only 38 percent of Americans approve of the job Biden is doing, far below the average calculated by RCP.  “Battered on trust, doubted on leadership, and challenged on overall competency, President Biden is being hammered on all sides as his approval rating continues its downward slide to a number not seen since the tough scrutiny of the Trump administration,” Quinnipiac polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement summarizing the devastating findings.

Republicans are already preparing for the midterms, making a strong case to voters that the Biden-Harris administration and Democrats in Congress are putting the country on a dangerous path.

NPR: “We all know that next year will be a referendum on how you feel about this administration,” [Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell] said. “Presidential approval is the coin of the realm in these off-year elections two years into a new administration.”

GOP campaign operatives told NPR that the political environment is already intense and enthusiasm from their base is high, even more than a year before voting.

Bottom Line: The Biden-Harris administration’s incompetence managing multiple crises, including Covid, the border and Afghanistan, has sent their poll numbers tumbling. Heading into the midterm elections, Republicans are offering a strong alternative to Biden’s reckless policies.
